Can you make yourself happy, especially during trying times?
People who describe themselves as happy tend to have fewer health problems, a lower risk of depression, and longer lives. Which means: happy people are generally healthier. What if you are not a naturally cheerful person? A research suggests that, on average, 50% of people’s general level of happiness is determined by genetics. However, 40% is under people’s control, and the remaining 10% depends on the circumstances. 📌 “This implies that even if you don’t consider yourself happy, there is a good chance you have some power to change it,” says Dr. Robert Waldinger, director of the longest-running study on happiness, the Harvard Study on Adult Development. Happiness, like any aspect of wellness, is a constant work in progress. And anyone, including you, can work on extending the periods of happiness in your life. One of the things I’ve noticed among my patients and students, is that the more they work on the underlying trauma generating blockages in their thought processes and the flow of their emotions, the more they develop awareness. And the more awareness they develop, the easier it is to allow happiness to show them the way. 🧘🏼♀️ I strongly believe health and happiness are our natural state, and because this natural state resides within, it is a state we can return to constantly, once we learn the path back to it. This is what healing is all about: it is not about never being sick, it is about listening to our inner signals and learning from our choices. When we do this, we develop awareness and wisdom from our past experiences, we return to our safe inner space, where our creativity lies, where all our questions are answered, where we can bask in our truth, where we can connect to what we desire… and choose ways to bring all of this wonder-full inner reality into the external reality that we share with those around us. This is the process of recreating who we are in the world. That is why we came here, to share our gifts and find joy in doing so. And it is meant to be a happy process. 🤍 So, if your health and happiness depends solely on you… what are you going to do? Xx, ~ L. 🌸
