How is your sleep?

When my Granny passed, I started to have trouble sleeping.

Up until then, I had been the regular 8-hour-sleep kind of person. Going out some nights couldn’t change that, the next day I would sleep soundly like a baby.

So it was a surprise for me when someone helped me see I was experiencing PTSD.

Given my clinical background, I immediately went to therapy, and then furthered the behavioral part of my training by becoming an IIN Health Coach, to make sure I was taking care of my-Self in proper bio individual, nutritious ways. There, I was also intensively trained on how to coach others going through similar experiences in practical, effective ways.

We can all lose track of ourselves when the going gets tough. And we all need help sometimes.

So here is a little reminder to be mindful of your sleeping habits:

🌙 How much sleep do you really need?

☆ Sleep helps young adults consolidate memories from the day before, more than it helps older adults.

☆ But then when adults in their 40s and 50s allow themselves to get the eight hours of sleep they need, they show fewer signs of cognitive problems like senile dementia when they are older.

🌙 Does sleep affect your emotions?

☆ When you’re tired, you’re more likely to be short-tempered, impatient, and moody. When this becomes chronic, it becomes an important risk factor for depression.

☆ Insomnia may impair your brain’s ability to successfully process negative emotions.

☆ Neural changes and emotional regulation difficulties have been found among people with insufficient sleep.

Sleep disorders can also affect your performance at work and cause strain in your relationships. When left untreated, it can lead to further health consequences.

📌 Sleep is essential for your body to function properly, this is why you need to take care of your body before taking care of anything and anyone else.

Life is not about not getting sidetracked, it is about coming home to our center every time we do.
